Someone was coming up the stairs. I was standing behind the open door in Tai’s bedroom with a very wet shirt and a very scared feeling. I listened as the footsteps came nearer and nearer. I was hoping that it wasn’t Tai’s mum. I prayed to God asking him to help me, to make my wish come true. I looked around and then looked on the floor. I was shocked and jumped back a little. I saw that there was a shadow of someone coming into the bedroom.

At that second, I couldn’t run away or find somewhere else to hide. If that shadow was her mum, she would call the police and I would end up in juvenile prison. In the last two months, four of my friends got caught by the police for sneaking into their girlfriend’s house. I didn’t really think much about their stories before. But what happened to one of them was flashing through my mind right now.

ในวินาทีนั้น ผมไม่สามารถวิ่งหนีหรือหาที่ซ่อนตัวได้ ถ้าเงานั้นเป็นแม่ของเธอ แม่เธออาจจะโทรเรียกตำรวจและผมจะอาจจะจบลงด้วยการถูกจับเข้าสถานพินิจ เมื่อสองเดือนที่แล้ว เพือนของผมสี่คนถุกตำรวจจับที่แอบเข้าไปในบ้านของแฟน ผมไม่ได้คิดอะไรมากเกี่ยวกับเรื่องของเขามาก่อน แต่เรื่องที่เกิดขึ้นกับหนึ่งในสี่คนทำให้ผมนึกขึ้นได้ตอนนี้

The first one who got caught in the act was Ton. He went to sleep in his girlfriend’s house every night. He always went there at midnight and came back in the morning at about 6 o’clock, before school. He said that it was so easy that he got careless. I guess they were too much in love and didn‘t think anything could go wrong. One morning they woke up late and her parents found them in bed together. Ton quickly jumped out of the window. His girlfriend’s parents called the police. It took them a few days to find him but they finally did and sent him to juvenile prison.

คนแรกเข้าไปอยู่ในเหตุการณ์คือต้น เขาไปนอนในบ้านแฟนของเขาทุกคืน เขาไปที่นั้นตอนกลางคืนเสมอและกลับมาในตอนเช้าประมาณ 6 โมงก่อนไปโรงเรียน เขาบอกว่ามันง่ายมากที่จะขาดความระมัดระวัง ผมคิดว่าพวกเขากำลังตกอยู่ในความรักกันมากและไม่คิดว่าจะมีสิ่งใดที่ผิดพลาดเกิดขึ้น เช้าวันหนึ่งพวกเขาตื่นสาย และพ่อแม่ของแฟนเธอพบพวกเขาอยู่บนเตียงด้วยกัน ต้นรีบกระโดดออกทางหน้าต่าง พ่อแม่แฟนของเขาเรียกตำรวจ มันต้องใช้เวลาสองสามวันที่จะเจอตัวเขาแต่ในที่สุดตำรวจก็ส่งตัวเขาเข้าไปอยู่ในคุกสำหรับเยาวชน

He was very lucky that he only had to stay there for two days. Ton’s parents talked to the parents of his girlfriend for a long time. They finally agreed not to press charges and to let Ton out. But Ton’s parents had to pay 1.5 million baht to the girl’s parents for what he did! I suppose he got off lightly because my other three friends are still in prison for doing the same thing.

Standing alone in the dark I felt so scared. I don’t want to go to juvenile prison like my friends and I don’t want my parents to lose lots of money to help me out. I promise that I will never never do anything like this again. I know that I have done bad things in the past but I promise I will do my best to be a better person in the future.

Now, I heard someone shouting my name. I knew that it must be Tai. She was saying that it was OK to come out now. She said to me that it was her neighbour coming to see her mum. I felt much better after I heard that. I came out and we went downstairs.

ตอนนี้ผมได้ยินบางคนเปล่งเสียงเรียกชื่อของผม ผมรู้ว่ามันต้องเป็นต่าย เธอบอกว่า โอเค ให้ออกมาได้แล้วตอนนี้ เธอบอกผมว่าเพื่อนบ้านของเธอมาหาแม่ของเธอ ผมรู้สึกดีขึ้นมากหลังจากได้ยินเช่นนั้น ผมออกมาและลงมาข้างล่าง

I told her I didn’t want to play on the Internet. She said it was OK so I told her I wanted to leave as quickly as I could. She led me to the front door and went out to check that there weren’t any neighbours around. I said goodbye to her and gave her a quick goodbye kiss before coming out of the house. I then walked to my bike and rode it back home.

I think I was very lucky that it wasn’t her mum. From now on, I won’t step in her house again. I have learned my lesson. When I got back home I told my mum what had happened. She said that I was luckier than I thought. She said that it was in the newspapers a few months ago that a teenager had tried to sneak into his girlfriend’s house and the mother thought he was a thief. It was a very big story because she killed him! My face went very white. I promise I will never ever do anything like this again
